Volumetric Lung Exerciser – Improve Lung Capacity with Incentive Spirometer
Increase your lung capacity with the volumetric exerciser. This unit measures the volume of air you inspire and shows you how effectively you are filling your lungs with each inhalation. It is composed of a base and central part divided into three chambers containing three small spheres, each different in color and size.
Key Benefits
- Sustained deep breathing has been shown to relieve anxiety and fight stress
- Strengthens the respiratory system and helps reduce shortness of breath
- Improves lung volume and provides better control over breathing
- Encourages use of abdominal and other muscles for fuller breaths
- Raise the ball and keep it suspended while inhaling and exhaling for 1–2 minutes
- Restores breathing patterns and lung function
- Promotes slow deep breathing to manage stress and anxiety
When to Use
- Post lung surgery
- Patients with respiratory disorders
- During illness
- In old age
Caution
Stop using the spirometer and rest if you feel dizzy or disoriented. This may occur when your body takes in more oxygen than it is used to.
How to Use
- Ensure no air leaks while inhaling through the mouthpiece
- Sit straight and use a pillow or towel for support if needed
- Hold or stand the spirometer in an upright position
- Exhale normally, then place lips tightly around the mouthpiece
- Inhale slowly to raise the ball or piston as high as possible
- Try to inhale longer, hold for 2–3 seconds, then exhale slowly
- Cough deeply after exhaling to clear sputum if needed
- Breathe in and out through the mouthpiece only (not the nose)
